Work Description
(Original Japanese title: 秋麗 “Aki-urara,” a poetic seasonal term meaning a serene and gently crisp early-autumn day.)
This piece is from my collection Sketches of Seasons and Scenes, which I composed with the thought: “Is there a charming work for players whose hands cannot reach octaves?”
In Japanese, haru-urara (“a lovely spring day”) is common, but aki-urara is far less familiar. The word describes the moment when the air turns slightly cool and the first colors of autumn begin to appear. The main theme depicts falling leaves fluttering gently to the ground, while the harmony uses minor chords at phrase endings to evoke a touch of melancholy. Yet overall, the piece radiates a warm and reassuring brightness.
Although it took less than an hour to compose, it remains one of my own favorites. The difficulty level is modest, and even elementary-school students can enjoy playing it comfortably.
