Work Description
I composed this piece as an encore for a concert held in mid-December.
Since it was just before Christmas, I aimed for a wintry and charming atmosphere. Because the piece does not use octave double notes, it can be played regardless of hand size.
Rovaniemi is a city in Finland located within the Arctic Circle, famous for the “Santa Claus Village.” It is also known as a place where the aurora can be observed. Even I, who am sensitive to the cold, once tried to visit it during my stay in Europe—although I ultimately couldn’t make the trip due to time constraints.
The piece is structurally simple and not particularly difficult technically, but the dissonances created by intervals such as sevenths and seconds may feel slightly unfamiliar to the hand and therefore somewhat harder to memorize.
