Work Description
This piece is from my collection Sketches of Seasons and Scenes, which I composed with the thought: “Is there a charming piece for players whose hands cannot reach octaves?”
It is a gentle, lullaby-like work. The sweet, distinctive fragrance of osmanthus flowers tends to linger strongly in the mind. Scents are known to be closely tied to memory, and every time I catch that fragrance, faint memories of my mother taking me for walks in the mountains when I was an infant come back to me.
The opening should be played calmly, and from the middle, adding a slight con moto to evoke the cradle’s growing sway can bring a nice sense of contrast.
The piece is not technically difficult, but maintaining the relaxed, dreamy rhythmic feel may demand some sensitivity from the performer.
