[Note]
Inspired by Dakar (Senegal), I composed this piece with a jazz-rock aesthetic. Rather than following strict classical formalism, the work unfolds according to the passage of time: Dawn → Midnight → Dawn. In Islamic regions, the call to prayer known as Adhan is broadcast throughout the city at each prayer time. In the piece, I evoke this sound using the Hijaz maqam mode, combined with bebop-style phrasing to create a rhythmic and energetic “musical adhan.”

The “Dawn” section incorporates Sabar, a traditional Senegalese dance characterized by extremely fast and complex rhythms. Over this rhythmic foundation, bright pop-like harmonic progressions depict the rising sun.

The piece is technically demanding, featuring meters such as 7/4, precisely notated swing passages, wide tenths, and large leaps. Although the work has a sense of key center, it makes almost no use of classical functional harmony, creating a unique floating atmosphere driven by a strong rhythmic pulse throughout.

セネガルの首都・ダカールにインスピレーションを受けて作曲したこの作品は、ジャズ・ロックの語法を伴った雰囲気に仕上げました。構成はクラシック音楽のような厳格な形式主義からは脱し、Dawn（夜更け）→Midnight（真夜中）→Dawn（夜明け）という時間の経過とともに曲が進行します。刻が変わる際、イスラム地域では祈りの時間を知らせるため、「アザーン」という呼びかけが街中に放送されます。曲中でも、「ヒジャーズ・マカーム旋法」というイスラム圏の音階を使い、またビバップ調にすることによってノリのよいアザーンを表現しました。

Dawnの部分ではセネガルの民族舞踊である「サバール」を取り入れています。非常に速い複雑なリズムを含んでおり、同時に清々しい朝日が差し込んでくるポップなコードを循環させています。

全体的に４分の７などの変拍子や完全記譜のスゥイング、１０度の重音や跳躍があることから、演奏の難易度はかなり高めです。調性はありますが、クラシック的な機能和声はほぼ使用していないため独特な浮遊感があり、また強烈なビート感が終始曲を支配しています。

The title Baetica was the name used in the Roman Empire for what is now Andalusia in Spain.

The piece draws extensively on flamenco rhythms and distinctive guitar techniques, and even includes passages evocative of the Islamic call to prayer, the adhan.

It is a masterpiece that captures the spirit of Andalusia, a region where diverse influences have interwoven throughout history to form a unique culture.

Dakar, the capital of Senegal, is world-renowned for the “Dakar Rally.” Located in West Africa and formerly part of French territory, it is considered one of the most advanced and cosmopolitan cities in the region.

Culturally, although the majority of Senegal’s population is Muslim, most belong to Sufi brotherhoods rooted in Islamic mysticism. This contributes to a relatively moderate approach to religious doctrine. As a result, Senegal maintains a tolerant attitude toward music—contrary to certain Islamic traditions in which music is considered haram (forbidden). In Senegal, music often plays an important role in religious ceremonies, and the country has developed its own rich musical and dance culture. Dakar also hosts an annual jazz festival, giving the city a lively artistic atmosphere.

ダカールは、「ダカールラリー」というレースで世界的に有名なセネガルの首都。旧フランス領で西アフリカに位置し、なかでもダカールは西アフリカ随一の先進的な都市となっています。

　文化背景としては、セネガル国内はイスラム教信者が国民の大半を占めるものの、イスラム神秘主義に基づくスーフィー教団に属しており、比較的教義については穏健な立場だそうです。それもあってか、音楽文化にしても寛容で（イスラム教の一部の宗派では音楽は“ハラーム”（禁忌））むしろ音楽を宗教的行事に位置付けるなど、独自な音楽、舞踊文化、またダカールではジャズフェステバルが開催されるなど賑わいをみせます。

The title “Berghof” refers to Adolf Hitler’s mountain retreat in Obersalzberg, Bavaria, a place of both personal refuge and official gatherings. It served as an unofficial headquarters and was visited by many prominent figures, setting the stage for a haunting historical narrative.

In 1933, a young girl named Bernile Nienau attended Hitler’s birthday celebration. By coincidence, she shared his birthday, which brought her to Hitler’s attention and led to a brief acquaintance. They exchanged letters, and photographs of their friendly interactions were preserved. These images were later exploited by the Nazi regime as propaganda to portray a more human side of Hitler, inspiring the melancholic themes of this composition.

However, Nazi authorities discovered that Bernile had a Jewish grandmother. Under the Nuremberg Laws, she was classified as a Mischling, and further contact with Hitler was forbidden. Tragically, she succumbed to tuberculosis in 1943 at the age of 17, a loss that lends poignancy to this work.

The fleeting connection between the architect of the Holocaust and a young girl highlights a profound historical irony. This composition, inspired by their story, is woven with melancholic undertones, inviting reflection on a tragic past.

タイトルの「ベルクホーフ」は、ナチス・ドイツの指導者アドルフ・ヒトラーが公私両方の目的で用いた、バイエルン州オーバーザルツベルクにあった山荘です。ここは事実上の「大本営」として機能し、多くの要人が訪れた場所でもありました。

1933年、ヒトラーの誕生日を祝う行事に参加したベルニーレ・ニーナウという少女が、偶然ヒトラーと同じ誕生日であったことから注目され、交流が始まりました。二人は何度か手紙を交わし、仲むつまじく写る写真も残されています。これらの写真は、ヒトラーの人間的な一面を強調する宣伝材料として利用されました。

しかしその後、ベルニーレにはユダヤ系の祖母がいることが判明し、当時の「ニュルンベルク法」に照らしてナチスの人種政策に抵触するとみなされ、二人の交流は制限されていきます。ベルニーレはその後、結核を患い、1943年に17歳で亡くなりました。

ホロコーストという人類史上の惨禍を主導した人物と、ひとりの少女との短い交流には、歴史の皮肉ともいえる側面があります。この曲はその出来事から着想を得て、切なさを帯びた音楽として形にしました。
